I have not been to Costa Coffee in Battle for some time, I was very unimpressed, service slow and uninterested staff, and trays could do with a good wash
The best thing about this Costa was that it was open at 5;30 by which time it appeared that all the independent equivalents had closed up for the day. On entering the shop looked shabby, the floor littered with discarded receipts, tables hadn't been cleared and trays of dirty crockery on the side counter waiting to be taken out to be washed. I think that the lady who served us was a manager (dressed in black whereas others wore Costa polo shirts?) and had to point out obvious things for other uninterested staff to be doing. The teapots presented had old tea dribbles down the sides and the mugs she picked up were equally soiled although in her defence she noticed and, failing to find anything more presentable, took 2 to the kitchen to wash. She was very apologetic for all this and the time it took to resolve but overall it gave a really bad impression and if there was an alternative place to get a cuppa at the time we would have gone elsewhere.
Very good service and attitude to customers, brought my coffee to my table so I didn't have to wait at counter. Premises overdue a refurb though as looking tired .
