A genuinely special camping experience, managed by people who clearly love living off-grid: as it should be. Elegantly simple and beautiful place run by warm and welcoming staff. When we arrived our kids were sceptical and less than impressed. Three days later they didn't want to leave. The only letdown was the proximity to a busy road which means being woken by commuting traffic on weekdays.
Fantastic camp site if you don't crave creature comforts. Showers and toilets are basic, but clean and they are eco friendly. we greatly enjoyed showering with only the sky above us. Great location to drive to tourist attractions and the coast but quiet and great for local walks. Recommended.
Returning customer: The Beech Estate is in my view the best of all worlds when camping. It's as close to wild camping as you can get whilst having loos and hot bucket showers to hand. My children love the experience and it gives them a real sense of adventure. Happy kids = happy parents! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will be returning again.
We just came back from a two amazing nights stay at this camp site. It was our first camping trip and we couldn't have chose better. We have two little ones (6 and 4) and they had an smashing time. :) We got a few glow in the dark sticks and two magnifying glasses that were a hit!Laurence, the Warden was very friendly, easy going and helpful. He gave us some directions to a few places close by to get some local produce and some instructions on how to use a dutch oven (Highly recommended). The place is exceptional, is clean and well distributed. You get your own pitch surrounded by vegetation and lots of trees, they feel very cosy and private. There is a short walk from the parking place but they have funky wheelbarrows to carry stuff around. The showers are a must visit! hot water - out doors - buckets hanging from a pulley in a wooden cubicle in the middle of the forest!!!!! Just amazing. If I could award more starts I would. We had a lovely time there and will come back for more :)
This is the second time I have stayed at this campsite with my husband and daughter. You are surrounded by lovely woodland, you have your own plot which feels private and you can light fires which is a big bonus. The wardens are lovely. Lawrence was very kind and always had time for a chat. We saw rabbits, a deer and hedgehog there. There are compost toilets and bucket showers which are brilliant. Also have conventional toilets too. The only downside was that we were surrounded by large groups. They were very noisy and had children screaming past 10pm. So that was a big shame as I like quiet when I'm camping. I'm sure if you go during the week it's a different story. I would recommend but be aware of probably won't be very tranquil. Though it is a lovely place to camp.
